[THE REJECTED DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: She Made Me Eat From The Floor, Not Knowing I Owned The Very House They Lived In]
I knelt on the cold marble floor, desperately fighting back tears as I scooped up the rice she had intentionally kicked over, while her wealthy friends laughed at my misery. What my cruel mother-in-law didn’t know, however, was that the very marble floor she stood on now legally belonged to me.
For three painful years, my marriage to David was a living nightmare orchestrated entirely by his mother, Madam Beatrice. She never hid her disgust for me, constantly reminding me that I was a “penniless street rat” who had manipulated her precious son. David, paralyzed by his mother’s overbearing control and the fear of losing his inheritance, never once stood up for me. I endured the emotional abuse, the endless chores, and the public humiliation because I genuinely believed my patience would one day win them over.
But everything shifted silently when I received a confidential letter from a top-tier law firm in the capital. My late grandfather, whom I thought had died in absolute poverty, had actually been quietly building a massive real estate empire, and as his only surviving bloodline, I was named his sole heir.
Before I could even process my sudden, unbelievable wealth, Madam Beatrice hosted a lavish anniversary party for her high-society circle. The mansion—a massive estate she constantly bragged about but was secretly heavily mortgaged to the bank—was filled with elites. She refused to let me dress appropriately, forcing me into an old, oversized maid’s uniform to serve the guests.
When I brought out the main dish, she deliberately stuck her foot out and tripped me. The expensive porcelain bowl shattered, and the food scattered across the floor. “Look at this clumsy, useless girl!” she screeched, grabbing my arm aggressively. “You will eat every single grain off this floor, like the stray dog you are, or my son will divorce you tonight and throw you into the streets!” I looked at David, begging him with my eyes to intervene, but he just turned his back, embarrassed by my presence.
As I stared at the grains of rice, something inside me finally snapped. I didn’t cry. Instead, I slowly stood up, dusting off my apron with a calm expression. Just then, the heavy mahogany front doors swung open. A prominent bank executive, accompanied by police officers and my newly appointed lawyer, marched into the grand hall.
Madam Beatrice quickly fixed her dress, assuming they were VIP guests who had arrived late. “Welcome, welcome! Can I help you, gentlemen?” she asked, putting on her sweetest fake smile.
The lawyer completely ignored her and walked straight toward me, handing me a golden pen and a thick legal document. “Madam Zara,” he said loudly, his voice echoing in the silent hall. “The transaction is complete. You have successfully paid off this family’s crushing debts and bought out the bank’s mortgage. You are now the 100% legal owner of this entire estate.”
The music stopped dead. Madam Beatrice’s champagne glass slipped from her hand, shattering on the exact same floor she had just forced me to eat from.
“W-what is the meaning of this?!” Beatrice stammered, her face turning pale with absolute shock. David rushed forward, suddenly finding his voice. “Zara, honey… what is he talking about? You have no money!”
I looked at the man I once loved, feeling nothing but pity. “It means, David, that your family has been secretly bankrupt for months, and your mother’s beloved mansion was scheduled to be foreclosed by the bank tomorrow morning. I bought it.”
I turned my gaze to the trembling Madam Beatrice, who was now leaning against a table for support. “You called me a street rat. You treated me like dirt in my own home to entertain your friends. Well, the street rat is now your landlord.” I pointed firmly to the grand exit. “Your marriage to me is over, David. Both of you pack your bags. You have exactly one hour to leave my property before I have you arrested for trespassing.”
Arrogance will eventually lead to your own downfall. Never treat anyone like they are beneath you, because the wheel of life turns in mysterious ways. The person you trample on today might be the exact same person who owns the ground you walk on tomorrow. Always treat everyone with kindness and respect!
